As we approach summer (and "National Braai Day") in South Africa, it's time to dust off those braais ("BBQ's") and get ready to spend lazy afternoons around the fire.
If you think vegans can't enjoy a good braai, think again! We'll be sharing some of our favourite braai recipes here, starting with our Magic Marinade:
Magic Marinade Recipe:
This marinade is vegan-friendly (of course!), and works for just about everything. Use it on your vegan sausages, giant mushrooms, or veggie skewers.
- ¼ tsp Cayenne Pepper (optional)
- 3 Tbls Nutritional Yeast
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 1 Tbls Yellow Mustard Seed
- 1 Tsp Mustard Powder
- 3 Tbls Golden Syrup
- 1 Tbls Tomato Sauce
- 2 Tbls Fresh Lemon Juice (we pick ours right off our tree!)
- 1 Tbls Soy Sauce
- 3 Tbls Water
Mix all ingredients together.
Place your vegan sausages or patties (or mushrooms/skewers) in a large bowl, and pour the marinade over. We used "Fry's Braai Style sausages", but there are plenty of vegan options available these days.
Let them sit for about 30 minutes before putting them on the fire.
